CAREN LYN FESTER

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Caren Lynn Fester, who left us at the age of 62. Caren was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on April 7, 1962, and passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024. She was predeceased by her father, Philip Thomas, and leaves behind her devoted husband of 40 years, Geoffrey Fester; her son, Derek Fester; and her mother, who was also her best friend, Eileen Thomas. She is also survived by her brothers, Brent, David, and Phillip Thomas (Carolina); her brother-in-law, Stephen Fester (Carol); sister-in-law Karen Fester; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Caren attended St. James Collegiate and later Stevenson-Brittania School, graduating as part of the Class of 1979. Throughout her life, Caren had a deep love for animals, with a special passion for horses as a young girl. She went on to rescue many animals, but her greatest love was her son, Derek, who was always her pride and joy. Caren and Geoff met while working together, and they married on December 7, 1984. Their marriage blossomed over 40 years, filled with love and mutual support, weathering both good and challenging times together.

Caren had a genuine passion for celebrating special occasions, especially birthdays, anniversaries, Halloween, and Christmas. She was known for her signature dishes, including ‘Caren’s meatballs and lasagna’. Caren was also a big sports fan; whether it was baseball, hockey, or football, she was the loudest fan in the arena, cheering on her beloved Winnipeg teams.

While the occasion was important, Caren always treasured the company of loved ones. She was always ready to share a cup of coffee, tea, Pepsi, or water with anyone who dropped by, cherishing the moments spent together.

Throughout her career, Caren worked at various places, including Superlite, KFC, Convergys (as a team lead), and RBC Royal Bank of Canada. She was known for her professionalism, kindness, and excellent work ethic. Caren made friends wherever she worked and was a great boss and employee. She retired early due to illness but continued to keep busy with her love for family, life and the friends she had made in the workplace. She never took a single day for granted always smiling and welcoming visitors with warmth and joy. Her infectious joy and loving spirit will be deeply missed, but her legacy of kindness and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Deer Lodge Long Term Care Centre for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Caren during her time there. Their dedication made a meaningful difference in her life, and we are forever grateful.

Funeral and prayers will be announced at a future date.
