Antonie (Toni) Ostrop, (nee Kupitz)
February 16, 1932 to March 25, 2024

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Antonie (Toni) Ostrop (nee Kupitz) on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 92.

Toni was born the 9th of 10 children, in Thuelen, Germany on February 16, 1932 and grew up on the family farm. She worked as a social worker in Germany, before following the love of her life, Harry, to Canada in 1966. Toni grew to love the prairies and the big open sky. She would always tell family in Germany that there is nothing like it. Had her parents ever been able to visit, surely they would have picked up and moved to Canada. Toni, Harry and Elisabeth would frequently visit family in Germany and always maintained a close bond. Rarely a summer went by without relatives coming to visit and discover Friendly Manitoba.

Toni always said being a housewife and mother was the most important job anyone could have. Although small in stature she was big of heart and a most generous person. Everyone was always welcome in the Ostrop household. She had a real twinkle in her eye and loved to joke with people. That never went away, even as her memory faded.

She was a person of great faith and was not afraid to meet her maker. She was predeceased by her husband Harry, as well as her siblings and in-laws. Toni is survived by her daughter Elisabeth and numerous nephews and nieces in Germany.

Toni was aware that her memory was going. Having volunteered at Riverview for approximately 20 years, she would say “put me in Riverview”. When the time came, she got her wish when a room became available. The majority of her time there she was fairly independent and always friendly. She loved anything to do with music and would attend the church services regularly. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers on CD3 at Riverview Health Centre for taking such good care of her, especially when her health worsened. It meant a great deal for her to be able to stay in a familiar environment.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Memorial Church, 254 Arnold Street with Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Efoe Anani presiding. Interment to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Toni’s memory can be made to St. Mary’s Academy (https://www.smamb.ca/support-us/)
