Although he left us much too soon, we take comfort in knowing he has gone home to be with the Lord he loved so much. Left to forever cherish Andy’s memory is his wife of 38 years of marriage, Linda; son Michael; daughters Jody and Shawna; son-in-law Michael Roy; granddaughter Claudia Roy; father James McKenzie; brother Jim (Emma Sutherland); sister Sheila (Mel Kiesman); sister Lorna Stacy; father-in-law James Baker and friend Margaret Trotter; as well as numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his mother Ruth; mother-in-law Hazelle and infant twin sister. For most of Andy’s working life he was a self-employed carpenter. Largely self taught, no challenge was too great for him to tackle and there were few things he could not do. He was always willing to lend a hand and would help anyone who asked. His family meant the world to him, no was simply not in his vocabulary where his children were concerned. Dad was the go-to guy, always there when needed. He undertook major renovation projects with all three children, passing on his knowledge and expertise along the way. This is his lasting legacy! Andy was a longtime member of Grant Memorial Baptist Church and was part of the choir and drama groups for many years. Music was a big part of his life, he was always so happy singing. No project was ever undertaken without the accompaniment of music. His CDs and CD players were always coated in drywall dust and wood shavings. Andy was a member of the Assiniboine Golf Club for many years. He shared his love of the game with his son Michael and spent many happy hours on the course. Andy’s life took on new meaning with the birth of his granddaughter Claudia last March. His little sweetums was the light of his life. Words cannot describe the joy this tiny person brought to him. Grampy was able to spend many, many hours with Claudia during the past 12 months. We were so very sorry that he was not able to be with the family for her first birthday party. On Friday, April 13, 2012 Andy’s Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. The family would like to express appreciation to the staff in SICU and MICU at H.S.C. for their professional, respectful care during Andy’s final 15 days. Thanks also to Dr. Al Schroeder for his compassionate care over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andy’s memory to Darcy’s Arc, Suite 5-510 Sargent Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1V8. Rest in Peace, My Love.Publish Date: Apr 14, 2012   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on April 14, 2012
