AILSA HEAP

April 19, 2012

AILSA MARY HEAP (nee KERR) On Thursday, April 19, 2012, Ailsa passed away peacefully at Oakview Place Personal Care Home the age of 90 years. Left to cherish Ailsa’s memory are her children Sue (Rick) Somerville, Jane (Zenon) Romaniuk, and Murray (Viv) Heap; grandchildren Ainslie (Rick) Lowes, Scott Somerville, Collin and Sean Heap and Marika Romaniuk; as well as her wee buttons: great-granddaughters, Taryn and Brena Lowes and best friend June George. During Ailsa’s life, the Old Heap as she called herself, enjoyed many Victoria Beach summers and travels to Bermuda, Scotland, U.S.A., and within Canada. Treasured friendships were made through Pala Camp, Brownies, Bank of Montreal, Lionelles, Crestview United Church, and Victoria Beach. Ailsa was married to her beloved Roger Bentley for 41 years, having met while both worked at the Bank of Montreal. She assisted Roger in coping with blindness and loved his dog guides, Nata and Josh. Proud of her Scottish heritage, Mom loved the bagpipes. She also delighted in baking (especially her famous brownies), bridge (mostly the eats), skiing, figure skating, polar bears, tea houses, her beloved VB but especially in her family. And we were delighted with her! In compliance with Ailsa’s wishes a family celebration will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Ailsa’s memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, C.N.I.B., Canadian Diabetes or a charity of your choice. Here’s tae us, wha’s like us, damn few, and they’re a’deid. -Robbie Burns   As published in the Winnipeg Free Press on May 05, 2012
