AGATHA SCHMITZ

April 26, 2012

AGATHA SCHMITZ In the last hour of April 26, 2012, at the Grace Hospital, Agatha Schmitz passed away peacefully, with her daughter Ilonka at her side. She was the beloved wife of Gerard, mother and much loved Oma of Gerry (Calgary); Ron (Carol) and sons Trevor, Kyle and Jeffrey; Ilonka (Ron) and sons Jonathan, Daniel and Michael. Oma was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her husband and young family, settling in the North End, later moving to Clifton Bay. Mom retained a love of the Netherlands, many things Dutch and made many trips back home to visit her family. She also enjoyed her trips to Portugal and Victoria, bingo, bus trips to the casino, shopping for bargains, and camping at TJs, often taking a grandson or three for company. Mom had a significant vision loss in her later years, but still enjoyed her game shows, vintage movies, Andre Rieu and listening to audio tapes provided by the C.N.I.B. She spent the last 15 months at the Sturgeon Creek Retirement residence with her husband and often energetic cat Yoshi. Oma will be lovingly remembered and missed by her family and friends. Thank you to the kind staff at the residence, the caring staff of the Emergency Department, and 3 North of the Grace Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A family service to remember and honour Oma will take place at 3:00 p.m. on May 16, the day that would have been her 90th birthday, at the Grace Hospital Chapel, 300 Booth. Reverend Monsignor Louis McCloskey officiating A life well-lived is a lasting inspiration.
