ABRAHAM BOLLEGRAF

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Abraham Bollegraf on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 86 years.

Left to lovingly remember Abraham is his beloved wife of 56 years, Louise, and his children; Marina (Matthew), Lisa (George), Patrick (Rebecca), and Stephen (Shea), and his many grandchildren; Samantha (Brian), Dylan, Logan, Amanda, Ryan, Corrina, Joel, Jasmine, Colton, Jesse, Avery and Lily. He is also survived by his sister Dee Bollegraf of Amsterdam, NL and his brother Fred of Huntington Beach, CA USA, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Abe was born in Celebes (Sulawesi), Indonesia on February 1, 1932. He later moved to The Netherlands, where he met his wife Louise. After their marriage and the birth of their two daughters, they immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada in 1968 to begin a new life as proud Canadians.

Abe was a welder by trade and worked at Versatile/Ford New Holland for many years until his retirement. He was a hard worker, providing for his family as a devoted husband and father. Abe was a friendly and kind-hearted man with a great smile, a wonderful sense of humour, and who loved being with his family and friends. His interests included: watching sports, such as hockey and tennis, as well as listening to music.

In his later years, and as his health declined, Abe’s positive attitude and strength was an inspiration to everyone. Never one to complain about his own health, his focus and attention was always on his family, especially for his wife, even during his final days and hours.

A funeral service and reception for Abe will be held on Saturday January 19, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Elim Chapel at 546 Portage Avenue, in Winnipeg,

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and staff at the Deer Lodge Centre. Their kindness and compassion provided great comfort to both Abe and our family during his brief stay there.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation.

And he sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?”
