Charles Maurice (Moe) Ritchot
Charles Maurice (Moe) Ritchot, 92, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025. Moe was born in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba to Georges and Marie (Deslaurier) Ritchot on December 4, 1933. He enjoyed his younger years growing up in Laurier, MB before moving with his family to Winnipeg in 1948.
Moe spent most of his working life in the office with CN Rail, before retiring in his late 50’s after more than 25 years of dedicated service. His retirement gave him plenty of time to participate in many of his favorite sports. He enjoyed ski trips with friends, time on the tennis courts and sunny afternoons on the golf course. He also liked to recall the one and only time he tried curling in a bonspiel, where his team won 1st place. He chose to retire from the sport to keep his 100% winning record.
Once his playing days were behind him, Moe continued to watch and talk about sports. He was a long-time Montreal Canadiens fan but still watched every Winnipeg Jets game on the TV, if only so he could complain about all the things they were doing wrong. Many a visit was spent arguing for and against the coach, the GM, the players, the strategy…all of it was fair game and the Jets would surely be Stanley Cup champs by now if they had only listened to Moe.
Moe also liked to keep up with current events and if he wasn’t watching sports, he was probably watching the news. Lively debates were held over Salisbury Nips and coffee with Alice and her daughter, Christine, in his later years that we will miss very much.
Moe was predeceased by his daughter, Renee Wilson in 2024, brother Gustave, and sisters Elizabeth and Lucille. He is survived by his grandchildren Alexandra and Drew Wilson, sisters Lorraine Betts and Jeanette Jurkowski as well as special friend Alice Murray and her family.
A private memorial service for family and friends will take place at a later date at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Starbuck, MB.
We would like to send a special thank you to the 2ndfloor staff at Vista Park Lodge, where Moe spent his last year. Their compassion and kindness are much appreciated.
