Ivy May Humphreys

(nee Trumbley)

January 1945 – February 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce that May passed away peacefully February 7th with her daughters & sister at her side.

May will be forever missed by her 3 children Dori (Tony), Denise (Greg), Diana, grandchildren Ella & Poppy. She has left behind brothers Brian (Sylvia) & Kevin (Ardis), sisters Barb (Bob), Patty, Pam (Jeff), numerous nieces and nephews, extended family & many friends and colleagues.  May is predeceased by her mother Ivy & father Fred.

May was born in Surrey England during World War 2 in 1945 and came to Canada shortly thereafter with her Mom and sister Barb. She spent most of her life in the St. James neighbourhood of Winnipeg.

In between raising her 3 daughters, she had many jobs. She worked at A&W and The May Company at Polo Park, then moved on to Pan Am Motors on Ellice Ave where she worked in the AutoBody department at the Service Desk. May eventually moved on to the Birchwood Auto Group where she stayed for over 3 decades before retiring. The Chipman family looked after Mom well.

Mom was a talented baker. Her family loved her shortbread cookies at Christmas and all her other delicious treats. She was an avid sewer while raising her girls. She made clothes for herself and her children. Her homemade flannel pyjamas at Christmas were coveted by the girls. She made her twin girls Denise and Diana matching outfits with their names embroidered so people could tell them apart. She made many barbie clothes that were treasured.

Mom loved the lake life with lots of time spent at Spruce Sands, Grand Beach & Lester beach. In her early years, Mom camped & fished in the Whiteshell. She made so many life long friendships.

May’s favourites things were family time and visiting friends and neighbours. She loved Coronation Street and watched all movies and curling. Mom loved walking in her neighbourhood and reading books. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing bridge, bingo & gardening.

The family would like to thank the all the doctors, nurses & staff of Grace Hospital for their care & compassion during her brief illness.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, February 20th at 12:00 noon at the St.James Legion No.4 located at 1755 Portage Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
